Kochi: A youth identified as Shyamjit has been arrested in connection with the murder of 23-year-old woman Vishupriya at Panoor in Kannur in North Kerala today. According to police the accused murdered her for breaking up her relationship with him.
She was found murdered inside her house where she was alone when the murder took place, police said. The police traced the accused using the CCTV footage and mobile phone tower location. Shyamjit was arrested soon after the crime.
Police also collected evidence from the mobile phone of the victim. The accused went to her house after ensuring that she was alone there. He entered the house through the back door.
He used a hammer to hit to immobilize her before slashing her neck with a sharp weapon. There were 18 injuries in her body.
He claimed that the two were in love for five years. She broke up with him after entering into a new relationship, he said.
Vishnupriya was working in a nearby hospital.
