Kochi: Eight people were killed and 60 injured when Kanchanjunga Express collided with a goods train in Rangapani station near New Jalpaiguri station in West Bengal on Monday, media reports said.
Two compartments were derailed in the impact of the collision. The mishap happened about seven kilometers from New Jalpaiguri.
The Prime Minister has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs. 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
President Droupadi Murmu has mourned the death and wished speedy recovery of the injured.
