US revived attack on Iran

Kochi: The US revived attack in Iran by
striking two Iranian launchers on Iran’s Larak island, perhaps the first since late July.
The attack came after US suspected Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces preparing to launch rockets with sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz,” the BBC’s US partner CBS News quoted US Central Command (Centcom) spokesman Cdr Tim Hawkins as saying.
The IRGC said Sunday’s attack killed and wounded several people, and vowed “response and punishment”. It later said it had launched an attack on US military targets in Jordan, according to Iranian state media.
Jordan’s army intercepted eight missiles fired by Iran for breaching the Kingdom’s airspace.
Larak Island is just offshore from the key port of Bandar Abbas and sits right on the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for global shipping.
Iran is currently making tanker traffic pass by this island for checking and reportedly forcing vessels to pay $2m (ÂŁ1.5m) to cross.
Trump said last week that all mines ‌ placed in the Strait of Hormuz by Iran as part of its efforts to blockade the route had been detonated or removed.
