Kochi: Former Pakistan Premier Imran Khan, wife Bushra Bibi were sentenced to 14 years in prison by a Pakistan court for corruption on Wednesday, media reports said.
The ruling comes second day after he was jailed for 10 years for leaking state secrets.The 1992 world cup winning captain, Khan is serving a three-year jail term for corruption since August last.
The conviction comes days ahead of Pakistan’s general elections on February 8 in which he is barred from contesting and restrictions riders have been imposed on his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party in poll activities. The court also directed Imran and wife to pay a penalty of over Rs 1.5 billion. Rubbishing the trials, Imran and his Party said the court proceedings had occurred in “kangaroo courts”. Khan, appealed to his supporters to remain calm, but take revenge for every injustice with their votes on X (formerly Twitter) account, the reports said.
