Kochi: Large quantity of stale food was seized by Kochi Corporation health authorities from a caterer who reportedly supplied food to premium trains like Vande Bharath even as Railways kept mum on the matter on Wednesday, media reports said.
Kochi Corporation officials raided the caterer at Kadavanthra after residents living near the place where food was prepared lodged frequent complaints with the local body.
Boiled eggs, meat, sambar, dosa, and chapati, were stored in an unhygienic cluster kitchen. The authorities said the food items gave off a bad smell.
The authorities seized food packets marked for Vande Bharat.

The residents had raised concerns about unsanitary practices at the facility, including dumping of food waste directly into a nearby canal.
On Tuesday evening, the situation escalated when local women approached the authorities complaining of a foul smell emanating from the building.
The corporation’s health team found the kitchen had poor sanitary conditions. Locals alleged that it was functioning without a valid licence.
