Kochi: A former French surgeon, Joel Le Scouarnec, 74, was sentenced to a maximum term of 20 years in jail for sexually abusing hundreds of patients, mostly children, between 1989 and 2014, BBC reported.
The victims include two of his nieces.
The court had taken into account the fact that the former surgeon targeted unwell, vulnerable and sedated victims.
His lawyer Maxime Tessier said Le Scouarnec will not challenge the verdict.
Le Scouarnec is in jail after being sentenced in 2020 to 15 years for raping and sexually assaulting four children.
The former doctor has been on trial in Brittany since late February when dozens of his victims told the court about the abuse they faced.
In March, Le Scouarnec admitted sexually abusing all 299 victims, many of whom were under anaesthesia.
He maintained diaries to describe the assaults in graphic detail of his victims, many of whom had no memory of the abuse they suffered.
Earlier this month he owned up “responsiblity” for the deaths of two victims who committed suicide, following the trauma of being sexually assaulted when they were children.
