Kochi: A Special Court in Kerala
sentenced a teacher K Padmarajan to life imprisonment and fined ₹2 lakh for sexually assaulting a 4th grade student in Palathayi, Panoor.
The Thalassery Protection of Children Sexual Offences (POCSO) Special sent Padmarajan to 40 years of imprisonment for two separate POCSO offences. The sentences will run concurrently.
The crime took place in January 2020, when Padmarajan sexually assaulted the student three times.
The prosecution examined 40 witnesses and presented 77 documents and 14 exhibits, while the defence presented three witnesses.
The girl’s mother registered a case against Padmarajan of BJP on March 17, 2020. He was arrested on April 15 and the investigation was transferred to the Crime Branch on April 24. The case changed hands five times, with the Crime Branch filing the final charge sheet in May 2021, which included POCSO sections.
