Kochi: Seventy one percent of voting was recorded in seven districts in the first phase of local bodies election in Kerala on Tuesday, media reports said.
Ernakulam polled 74.21 percent to top the tally while Pathanamthitta recorded lowest 66.55 per cent.
Voting recorded in other districts are Thiruvananthapuram 67.1, Kollam 70, Alappuzha 73.58, Kottayam 70.68, Idukki 71.28.People were seen standing in queue even after 7 pm when the polling should end. The polling began at 7 am, covering wards in 595 local bodies. CPM will witness a historic march, Pinarayi Vijayan said. Congress saw a trend of change in governance while BJP predicted that Kerala will think in a different way. Meanwhile, campaigning in seven districts ended today under the second phase. Onchiyam and Pookottur saw clashes. Voting will be held in seven districts from Thrissur to Kasaragod on December 11. The second phase of the elections will be held on December 11, and counting of votes will take place on December 13.
