Kochi: It is a war in a leftist family over the child of a woman who is accusing her father of handing over her newborn baby boy to the government agency by hoodwinking her. The child is said to have been adopted by a couple in Andhra Pradesh.
The reason why the CPM family of Anupama S Chandran allegedly did all this is that they could not accept Ajith, a DYFI leader, who Anupama chose to live with and who later fathered the baby boy. Ajith hails from a Dalit Christian community.
CPM leader Jayachandran branded the child illegal claiming that he was fathered by a person who already had a family. He claimed that the child was disowned by Anupama in an affidavit signed in front of a notary stating her inability to bring up the child which she dismissed outrightly claiming that she was made to sign some documents making her believe that they were papers connected to their property.
A strong SFI activist during her student days, Anupama and her partner Ajith, a DYFI leader, have lodged complaints with the state police chief, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, various ministers, and CPM leaders in the state seeking custody of their newborn baby. But no one allegedly came to support her and the agencies acted as per the party ploy to first hand over the baby to the government Child Home and then to facilitate the baby’s adoption.
According to the comrade couple the CPM-family, Child Welfare Committee, Child Home, top CPM leaders and cops with whom they put up such a grave complaint did not lend them a helping hand, rather they misguided treated them with sarcasm and even allegedly threatened Ajith to keep away from Anupama.
Anupama and Ajith are living together even as Ajith claims to have separated from his first wife. Jayachandran is a local committee member of the party’s Peroorkada unit and General Secretary of Thiruvananthapuram Centre of India Trade Unions (CITU). Reportedly a former central committee member of CPM is from Anupama’s family.
Anupama delivered the child in October 2020, and claimed that thereafter she was under the captivity of her family until March 2021 when she escaped from her house and joined Ajith who claimed to have got a divorce from his wife in January 2021. The couple claimed that they approached the police who were yet to file an FIR. Now the other option before them is legal, they said.
Baby reportedly adopted by Andhra Couple
The baby of Anupama who was allegedly taken away by her parents was adopted by a couple from Andhra Pradesh, it is learnt. The child was adopted temporarily and the court proceedings to make the adoption process permanent is progressing amid the brewing controversies with fingers pointed at the CPM leader in Thiruvananthapuram, the Child Welfare Committee, Kerala Police and the government’s Child Home run by CPM-appointed functionaries.
