Kochi: Bowing down to unrelenting farmers’ protest, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today announced the government’s decision to withdraw three controversial farm laws.
In an address to the nation, Modi sought apologies from the people of the country.
He said it was painful to note that the government could not convince the farmers.
Modi confessed that there could have been flaws in the penance of the government. Modi said the constitutional process to repeal the laws will be taken up in the next Parliament session beginning at the end of this month.
He appealed to the farmers to return to their homes, to their families and to their farms and begin their normal activities.
The unprecedented move in the history of the country where three laws are rolled back in one go comes at a time when the elections are going to be held soon.
Former Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has thanked the Prime Minister for the decision.
