Magician Muthukad to retire

Kochi: Noted magician Gopinath Muthukad is bidding adieu to magic to focus more on the upbringing of the differently-abled children.

The 57-year-old motivational speaker gave messages to the society through his performances.

He is a good orator and has tremendous skills to convince people. He came to understand the miseries of the differently-abled children when he happened to interact with the victims of the endosulfan episode in Kasaragod.

Muthukad organised a magic show for finding funds for their uplift and welfare. He started an institution Magic Planet dedicated for them at Kazhakoottam in Thiruvananthapuram in 2014.

He became the first magician in the world to set up a magic academy in Thiruvananthapuram in 1996. Muthukad was attracted to magic in his teenage years and after completing tenth standard he attributed more time to it.

After joining college remained away from magic activities. After his graduation he joined for legal studies but did not continue as magic continued to attract him as it was his passion.
He moved to Thiruvananthapuram from his native place in Nilambur.

Simultaneously he got involved in taking part in social activities.
He is the only person from Kerala to get an award from UNICEF for working for child rights.

He got Kerala Sangeeta Nataka Award Academy award in 1995. Muthukad was also honoured with International Merlin Award instituted by International Magician’s Society.
