Kochi: Leftist publication Deshabhimani has fired its weekly Editor K R Ajayan for including a story ‘Kallan Vijayan’ (thief Vijayan) as it allegedly resembled the name of Pinarayi Vijayan of CPM, media reports said.
The action comes as the story was listed for publication in the weekly to mark late Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan’s first death anniversary on Tuesday.
As soon as the matter came to the notice of the management, the publication of the weekly on Sunday was canceled, media reports said.
The story “Kallan Vijayan” is about a stage artist related to a play based on the life of a thief.
The cancellation of the publication
has invited widespread criticism against CPM accusing it of doing things to please Kerala Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan.
Talking to Asianet News, late Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan’s son V A Arun has condemned Deshabhimani’s failed move to publish the article.
Achuthanandan’s press secretary K V Sudhakaran article was also included in the list of articles to be published.
Deshabhimani Resident Editor M Swaraj on Monday said the weekly had no plans to publish the article. Achuthanandan, who is known for his honesty and maturity, was in loggerheads with Pinarayi who is an accused in the Rs 345 crore SNC Lavin bribery case.
