P S Prasanth in police custody

Kochi: Former Sabarimala Devaswom Board president P S Prashanth was taken into custody by the Special Investigation Team on Thursday in connection with the temple gold robbery case.Prashant, who was picked up from his residence in Thiruvananthapuram, is likely to be arrested soon.Prashanth had himself posted on his Facebook post that he was foreseeing his arrest any time.He accused the Congress government of politically targeting his party and him in connection with the 2019 gold robbery case.He claimed there was no chinks in Sabarimala Devaswom Board in taking idols and other articles for gold plottingHe said no regret for working for the almighty adding that the truth will prevail in the end.The Sabarimala gold theft case involves the alleged misappropriation of roughly 4.54 kg of gold from the temple’s gold-clad door guard (Dwarapalaka) idols and pedestals. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) are investigating temple board officials, priests, and jewelers over fraudulent replating practices in 2019. Gold-clad artifacts were transported from Sabarimala to a private facility in Chennai in 2019. Official records initially mislabeled the gold cladding as “copper plates,” deliberately concealing the true nature of the assets. The prime suspects arrested were Unnikrishnan Potti, temple priests, and the proprietor of the Chennai firm.
