Kochi: At least 19 people were killed and 15 injured in a stampede at a Durga Puja pandal in Kolkata’s Chorbagan area on Saturday evening.
As it started raining, people waiting outside the pandal rushed forward, and some fell on the road, triggering the stampede, a senior officer told PTI.
The incident took place around 7.40 pm in the Girish Park police station area amid heavy crowds.
The injured were taken to Calcutta Medical College where they are recuperating.
Police said 12 people, including Puja organisers, were being questioned in connection with the incident.
