Kochi: In a rain-truncated match, India made a miraculous comeback to defeat Bangladesh by five runs to top the group two in the men’s T20 World Cup in Adelaide on Wednesday.
With six points in four games, India is almost through to the semi-finals.The intervention of nature led to curtail the match to 16 overs DLS manner which put a target of 151 runs before Bangladesh to win the match in 16 overs.
Earlier, winning the toss, Bangladesh decided to opt for fielding. India played carefully and made 184 for 6. Captain Rohit Sharma departed to the pavilion in the fourth over. K L Rahul and Virat made a partnership of 67 runs for the second wicket. Rahul made 50 off 32 balls. Suryakumar Yadav joined Kohli and hit 30 in 16 balls. Kohli, who made 64 off 44 balls, became the top run getter in T20 World Cup history. Ravichandran Ashwin made a valuable 13 and remained not out with Kohli.
For Bangladesh, H Mahmud took three wickets for 47 runs while captain Shakib Al Hassan claimed two for 33. Bangladesh started confidently and hit Indian bowlers all across. The turning point was the fall of the wicket of Litton Das, 60. This led to the debacle of Bangladesh which was once 68 for no loss in the eight over.
It was tottering at 108 for six after 13 overs. Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya Pandya bowled precisely in the final three overs that led to the decisive victory of India. Singh took two for 38, Pandya two for 28 and Mohammad Shami one for 25.
