Kochi: A Thiruvananthapuram City Court granted conditional anticipatory bail to
rape accused Congress MLA Eldhose Kunnappilly.
The Additional Sessions Court directed Eldhose to appear before the investigation team before October 22. The court warned him against making any attempts to influence the case by persuading or threatening the complainant or witnesses.
The accused argued that the case against him was politically motivated. Eldhose had gone underground for several days after he was booked under different charges on the basis of the accused who was his acquaintance earlier.
The Opposition Leader V D Satheeshan and Congress state chief K Sudhakaran had announced action against Eldhose when the matter surfaced. But the party has not taken any action yet.
The incident has caused immense damage to the Congress at a time when it is passing through a crisis situation at national level. Revolutionary Marxist Party chief K K Rema’s suggestion seeking Eldhose’s resignation has added insult to injury to Congress as it was the Congress which had supported her in the last Assembly election.
