SC adjourns Lavalin case

Kochi: The Supreme Court today adjourned the Lavalin case in which the CBI has challenged the acquittal of Pinarayi Vijayan by the Kerala High Court and a CBI court. The case had seen repeated adjournments since January 2018.

A few others, who were not acquitted by the courts, had also challenged the ruling against them. The case pertains to the state incurring a loss of Rs 86.25 crore in the Kerala State Electricity Board’s (KSEB) contract with SNC-Lavalin of Canada for the renovation and modernisation of a few hydroelectric projects in Idukki district in Kerala during the tenure of Pinarayi Vijayan as the State’s Power Minister in nineties.

The Kerala High Court had upheld the acquittal of Vijayan and two former KSEB senior officers while three other officials were asked to stand trial.
