Kochi: Gunshots were fired at an event organised by US President Donald Trump who was rushed to safety on Saturday night.
The incident happened at a dinner organised for the White House Correspondents by the President and First Lady Melania Trump at Washington Hilton.
The President appeared to be part way through a conversation when he was interrupted by a commotion at the White House table, BBC reported.
Loud bangs were heard and then various secret service members escorted the President, wife, and Vice President away calling out “stay down, stay down”.
Trump, wife and others are safe. The Secret Service said that seven to eight gunshots were fired.
The suspected gunman has been identified identified as Cole Tomas Allen, 31, of Torrance, California, Times of India quoting CNN reported.
The suspect has been taken into custody by the United States Secret Service.
