Kochi: The US voters on Tuesday are heading to exercise their franchise in the mid-term polls which will define the ratings of President Trump of the Republican Party during the final two years of his presidency.
Trump’s Republican Party will have to sweat out to defend its narrow congressional majorities while the opposition Democrats are challenging his agenda. The elections are being held for 435 seats in the House of Representatives, 35 Senate seats and 36 governorships. The midterm elections will decide control of Congress come at a difficult moment for his Republican Party. Voters are concerned about the cost of living. Food and fuel prices have soared in part due to the president’s aggressive tariffs and unpopular war with Iran. Trump, who had served as the 45th president from 2017 to 2021, lost re-election to Democratic nominee Joe Biden in 2020. Trump won against Democratic nominee Kamala Harris in 2024 to become the second former U.S. president to return to office. The price of a gallon of diesel, which was $3.75 before the war started in February, hit a record high of $6.52 in September. Inflation went up from 3% when Trump took office to 3..7 %. The economic picture has left the Republican vulnerable in typically safe races, in states such as Texas, Ohio and Kansas.
