Kochi: Load shedding of about 30 minutes will come into force between 6 pm and midnight in Kerala due to mismatch in demand and supply.
A meeting, chaired by Additional Chief Secretary (Power) Puneet Kumar took the decision, On Manorama reported.
The meeting was attended by KSEB Chairman and Managing Director Minhaj Alam, along with directors, chief engineers and other senior officials.
It reviewed the unexpected rise in electricity consumption and the emerging shortage in the state.
Peak power consumption hit a record 118.26 million units on Monday.
Power availability in the open market dipped drastically due to the heatwave in many parts of the country.
Kerala depends on external sources for more than 70 per cent of its power. A shortfall of 200 MW from central generating stations is expected to be resolved by Tuesday.
KSEB has reportedly failed to enter into fresh swap agreements with other states.
