Kochi: Actor Soubin Shahir, his father Babu Shahir and producer Shawn Antony were arrested on Monday in connection with a cheating case, media reports said.
As they had secured anticipatory bail, they were released on police station bail.
They were questioned on a complaint filed by a businessman Siraj Valiyaveettil who accused them of violating the agreement conditions entered between them while making investment in the making of ‘Manjummel Boys’ under the banner of Parava Films.
The Kerala High Court had granted anticipatory bail to them last month. Siraj filed a complaint against them, and a case was registered on April 23, 2024, on charges of forgery and cheating.
Siraj claimed that he had invested Rs 7 crore in the film after the producers promised him a 40% share of the profits.
Siraj stated in the complaint that the producers owe him Rs 47 crore, which included the principal amount and the profit share. Siraj produced documents, including bank transactions, to the investigation team.
Parava Films claimed the film garnered Rs 200 crore.
