Kochi: The Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) office-bearers led by the outfits first woman president Shweta Menon resigned on Sunday following internal differences. Shweta Menon also quit the primary membership of the organisation. The 17-member committee stepped down after a section moved a no-confidence motion against the leadership at a general body meeting held here.
The office bearers were accused of failing to run the organisation smoothly, The Hindu reported.
A section of members disputed the annual report and financial statement presented by general secretary Kukku Parameswaran. AMMA first woman President Shweta Menon’s appeal seeking 45 days’ time to study the matter was rejected.
Shweta told reporters that there was a conspiracy to grab power by some with vested interests.
Actor Baburaj blamed the outgoing committee for failing to resolve issues faced by many including women.
The AMMA general body formed an ad-hoc committee to run the organisation until the next election. Actor and Palakkad MLA Ramesh Pisharody has been appointed the convenor of the temporary panel, senior actor Jagadeesh announced. Other members are K B Ganesh Kumar, Suresh Krishna, Sidique, Rony David, Krishnaprabha, Asha Aravind, Shajohn and Devi Chandana.
The Shweta Menon-led committee wPhas elected in August 2025 after the previous committee headed by Mohanlal stepped down amid the controversies over the Hema Committee report.
