Guv’s notice to VC on appointment

Kochi: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has sought urgent clarification from Kannur University Vice Chancellor on the appointment of wife of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s private secretary K K Ragesh in the university.

The clarification was sought after a complaint was filed before the Governor alleging that the appointment of Priya Varghese as associate professor was in violation of the laid down UGC norms.

Priya, who was a faculty in a college in Thrissur, was placed on top of the list of the aspirants who had appeared for interview for the post.

The Vice Chancellor had conducted the interview in November last year just before his retirement.

After the interview, the VC was given an extension which the Save University Campaign Committee (SUCC) claims was a reward given to him for the illegal appointment.

As the matter became controversial, the appointment was kept in abeyance. The matter once again became controversial when the university syndicate recently decided to ratify Vice Chancellor Gopinath Raveendran’s appointment.

The complainant alleged that Priya did not have eight year sof teaching experience to become associate professor.
