Bangladesh PM quits amidst violence

Kochi: Anti government violence has led to the resignation of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Awami League at the advice of the army, media reports said.
She is believed to have moved to a safer location in India with her sister.
This brings an end to her 15 years in power after prolonged anti-government violence that claimed over 300 lives.
Protesters in large numbers bulldozed into her official residence, Ganabhaban, in Dhaka.
Bangladesh’s army chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman held talks with leaders of Awami League, the opposition BNP, and others.
An interim government is expected to be formed in the country soon.
The protests began in June by students demanding an end to a quota system for government jobs. Later it turned violent after clashes between protesters and police and pro-government activists, the reports said.
