Kochi: The US Supreme Court has struck down President Donald Trump’s sweeping global tariffs delivering a major blow to the president’s economic agenda, BBC reported.
The Supreme Court ruled Trump exceeded his authority when he imposed tariffs via a law reserved for national emergencies.
The ruling applies to his so-called “Liberation Day” tariffs. Trump argues the taxes on goods imported into the US will boost the American manufacturing sector. Tariffs are taxes on imported goods, which are usually charged as a percentage of a good’s value.
