Kochi: The central government has decided to act against those reporting late for work and signing out early, media reports said.
In a bid to impose puntuality in central government offices since it came to power in 2014, the government had introduced a biometric attendance system which got suspended during the corona pandemic.
The Aadhaar-enabled biometric attendance system was reintroduced in February, 2022. But, some employees were violating the system forcing the government to get stern against them.
The government has gone tough against those not reporting for duty at 9 am and remaining in their seats until 05.30 pm. Those not turning up by 09.15 am will lose their half day’s casual leave.
Senior officers plea to exempt them from the biometric attendance system considering their erratic work timing like leaving after 7 pm has not been accepted by the government. They argue that they often end up working from home, including on holidays, media reports said.
