Kochi: Fortynine accused in the Idamalayar irrigation canal renovation graft case have been convicted by the Thrissur Vigilance Court, media reports said.
The court gave them three years jail term and imposed a fine of Rs 6 lakh each for being guilty on different counts. Originally there were 51 accused out of which one was acquitted. Six of the accused died during the different stages of the case.
The case pertained to corruption of Rs 1.05 crore in the 8 kilometer Chalakudy canal renovation project as part of the Idamalayar irrigation project.
The executive engineer and assistant executive engineer were accused in all the cases, the reports said.
