Kochi: The Congress-led Kerala government on Friday ordered a Vigilance investigation against former Kannur District Panchayat President and CPI(M) leader P P Divya who is also accused of suicide of ADM Navin Babu.
The Vigilance will probe charges including financial irregularities and granting of contract of Rs 11 crore breaching tender norms.
The probe is based on a complaint filed by Kerala Students’ Union (KSU) State Vice-President Muhammad Shammas alleging that Carton India Alliance is a benami company linked to Divya and her husband, V P Ajith.
The vigilance will investigate the assets and property transactions of Divya and her husband.
The state government granted the probe sanction under Section 17(A) of the Prevention of Corruption Act based on the directive of the Kerala High Court. Former Kannur District Panchayat Secretary Abdul Latheef is also named in the vigilance investigation regarding the contract approvals.
