Kochi: Unable to crush factionalism in Kollam, CPM today dissolved the Karunagappally area committee on a war footing ahead of the commencement of its state committee conference, media reports said.
The party took the extreme step as rival groups activities were causing embarrassments to the party as the warring groups took to the street airing their differences by displaying placards seeking to save CPM.
An ad hoc committee has been assigned the affairs of the area committee.
The decision was taken by the Party state secretary M V Govindan who was in Kollam in connection with bringing truce between the disgruntled groups. After taking part in district secretariat and district committee meetings, he said the incidents in Local Committees were disturbing.
The problems were not acceptable, he said, warning that the party will take stern action against wrong things.
Most of the local committee conferences under Karunagappally area committee were irrevocably divided.
