CPM ruins Swaraj

Kochi: Independent candidate P V Anvar has succeeded in proving his relevance in the Nilambur Assembly constituency where CPM lost minus Anvar who had helped the Left front win the last two elections, political observers said.
Knowing very well that the Left front did not have any chance to come anywhere near the figure of winning total, the CPM’s decision to field M Swaraj despite his poor track record is intriguing.
This is his second defeat for Swaraj lost one at the Left stronghold of Tripunithura even when there was a wave in favour of the Left in 2021.
Is there something cooking against Swaraj in the party which appears to be determined to finish off his political future.
When Swaraj was elected to the assembly by a small margin in 2016, why was he not treated on par with his contemporaries like A M Shamsheer and Mohamed Riyas who got plum positions.
A A Raheem got into Parliament through Rajya Sabha, while energetic and smart journalist turned politician John Britas got all the attention of the party, there is something that is blocking the path of Swaraj despite having talents.
Though Nilambur turned out to be another excuse for the party to downplay Swaraj’s capability, it helped Anvar to increase his rating before the Assembly polls due for early next year.
It is written over the wall that both the fronts will go to any end to woo the help of Anwar to increase their tally.
On the other hand, the story of BJP is pathetic in Nilambur where the Saffron party made a last minute arrangements with the Kerala Congress (Joseph) leader Mohan George whose performance was dismal.
Mohan’s association with the BJP would have cost him many traditional votes of Christians many of whom have reservations in voting for the Saffron party. Such votes would have gone in favour of the Congress.
What is BJP planning for the assembly election is anyone’s guess, they said.
