Kochi: A 44-year-old man who butchered his wife in his slaughter house suspecting her fidelity was sentenced to death and slapped a penalty of Rs 1 lakh by a court in Malappuram, media reports said.
The Manjeri Additional District Sessions Court II sent Najabuddin (alias) Babu of Kuttamboor in Narikkuni to gallows, for murdering his wife Raheena on July 23, 2017.
The court sentenced him to another five years of Rigorous Imprisonment for looting jewellery from the deceased and directed to pay a penalty of Rs 25,000.
Failure to pay the amount will force him to undergo a jail term of one more year. The court directed the fines to be paid to Raheena’s mother, Subaida.
Raheena, 30, and Babu had united after a legal fight in different courts. Babu took Raheena to a rented house in Chudalaparambu Parapanangadi. He married another woman who was lodged in his own house.
One day Babu took Raheena to his slaughter house at Anjappura Beach Road under the pretext of helping. She was killed at 2 am 4.45 am. After committing the crime, Babu looted her 36.43 grams of gold jewellery, escaped and was hiding in places like Coimbatore and Palakkad and returned home after going bankrupt.
The Additional Public Prosecutor K P Shaju argued the case for prosecution. The investigation was conducted by then Tanur Circle Inspector C Alavi.
The court directed the District Legal Services Authority to provide Raheena’s son and mother financial relief from the government’s Victim Compensation Fund.
