Kochi: A court today sentenced Ashfaq Alam, 28, to death and five life terms for rape and other charges of five a year old girl in Aluva, media reports said.
The Ernakulam POCSO Court accepted the prosecution’s argument that the case was among the rarest of the rare and also directed the accused to pay a fine of Rs 7,70,000.
The cour, which delivered the verdict on the 110th day of completion of the trial, upheld 13 charges levelled by the prosecution against the accused, including murder, kidnapping, torture, indignity to a human corpse, destroying evidence and three POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) charges, the reports said.
