KSEB’s shock in pipeline

Kochi: Kerala is going to get another shock as high end single phase electricity consumers will have to migrate to three phase connection, media reports said. The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has been directed by the Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KSERC) to locate heavy-load domestic consumers and convert their connection to 3-phase.

An interim order of KSERC of October said that consumers having single phase connections are not allowed to use more than 5 kW of load, the reports said. Migrating to three phase connection would invite an expenditure of Rs 4,600 as conversion rate, increase in rent for meter, higher security deposit among others leading to increase in power bills due to tariff change.

The Commission has underscored the need to carry out the drill without causing any hardship to consumers. The regulatory body has advised KSEB to deploy measures such as voluntary disclosure to avail of discounts, the reports said.
