Kochi: Delhi Assembly elections to 70 seats will be held on February 5, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced today.
Counting will be held on February 8 while scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on February 18.
Last date for withdrawal is February 20.
Dismissing allegations of hacking of voting machines, Kumar said the allegations were painful.
However, he said people had the right to question.
All the polls are held in a transparent manner, he said.
Delhi became a union territory on 1 November 1956 and National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi in 1995. The Congress formed all the governments in Delhi before the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ousted it. In 1998, the Congress led by Sheila Dikshit returned and was re-elected for 3 consecutive terms.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led by Arvind Kejriwal captured power from Congress in 2013.
However, the government collapsed in 49 days. Delhi was then under President’s rule until February 2015, after which AAP returned to power after a landslide victory, winning 67 out of the 70 seats. Since then AAP has been in power.
