Kochi: Legendary spinner Shane Warne, 52, of Australia passed away at Koh Samui Thailand on Friday.
Born Shane Keith Warne on Sep 14, 1967, Shane, also called Warnie, showed keen interest in the game from childhood, media reports said.
Making his debut against India at Sydney in 1992, Warne was instrumental in Australia winning the 1999 World Cup and many ashes events.
Warne had taken 708 test wickets, 293 one day wickets. He made 300 appearances in all the formats of the game.
He was selected Wisden’s Cricketer of the year 1994 for his unparalleled achievement during 1992 and 2007.
Warne played first four seasons of IPL during 2008-11 for Rajasthan Royals as captain and coach.
He led Rajasthan Royals to victory against Chennai Super Kings in the finals.
Rajasthan Royals appointed him team mentor in 2018. Condolences are pouring in from the cricketing world, politicians and others.
