Kochi: Film maker K P Sirajuddin has been detained by the customs in connection with smuggling 2.23 kg gold in a meat processing machine through Nedumbasserry airport.
Thrikkakara Municipality Vice Chairman A A Ibrahimkutty’s son Shabin is among the three accused arrested in the case that surfaced in April.
It was on the basis of the deposition of the accused that Customs established the complicity of Sirajuddin in the case.
The Customs detained Sirajuddin as he arrived home from abroad via Chennai airport as he failed to respond to the customs notices to appear before it for questioning.
The financial growth of Sirajuddin and Shabin had made the customs suspicious and it had conducted raids in their residences from where valuable leads to prove their complicity in the case were seized.
The customs is all set to register his arrest.
