Kochi: Five members of a family including an eight month old infant were found dead in their two storey house which was engulfed in fire in Varkala near Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday morning.
The deceased were identified as a vegetable seller Prathapan, 64, his wife Sherly, 53, younger son Akhil, 29, elder son Nihul’s wife Abhirami, 24, her eight-month-old son Rayan, media reports said.
Nihul was in a hospital with burns, the reports said.
The police said the deceased could have died due to smoke as there were no much burn injuries on them.
The fire is believed to have started at about 1.45 am.
The fire is suspected to have caused due to a short circuit in one of the three airconditioners.
The blaze was sighted by the neigbours about 6 am and they immediately alerted the fire and rescue services, the reports said.
