Kochi: Kerala Kalamandalam got its first male dance teacher after R L V Ramakrishnan joined the institution as Assistant Professor in Bharatanatyam.
Vacancy for the post was announced two months back in accordance with UGC guidelines. Ramakrishnan who applied for the post and cleared the prescribed examination and interview and topped the list.
Ramakrishnan, who is the brother of the late malayalam actor Kalabhavan Mani, is a first-rank holder in Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam.
Along with Ramakrishnan, nine others were also appointed as Assistant Professors today.
Ramakrishnan was the top performer in MG University youth festival in 2001. He is the brother of noted actor late Kalabhavan Mani who won National Film Award – Special Jury Award and Kerala State Film Awards in Vasanthiyum Lakshmiyum Pinne Njaanum of 1999.
Ramakrishnan served as the head teacher of Kalagriha started by Kalabhavan Mani in Chalakudy. He has also worked as guest lecturer at Kaladi Sanskrit University In 2022. Ramakrishnan has won the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Award in Mohiniyattam. He has acted in five films.
