Kochi: Senior CPM leader G Sudhakaran deposed before the Ambalapuzha Tehsildar Anvar S on Thursday on the veteran left leader’s alleged remarks that he tampered with postal ballots during the 1989 general elections, Manorama said.
Anwar, who is the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer, recorded Sudhakaran’s statement which is likely to be submitted to District Collector V R Vinod IAS.
The Chief Electoral Officer ordered a probe after Sudhakaran confessed to the tampering.
When asked about the repercussions of his confession, Sudhakaran said he was not afraid of any consequences.
“I did not commit any murder. So, I’m not afraid. I have recorded my statement. Let the collector take action,” said the CPM leader.
Meanwhile, Sudhakaran’s revelation has triggered a political controversy in the state.
Speaking to reporters, CPI leader Binoy Viswam flayed Sudhakaran for opening postal ballots.
