Kochi: The government medicos in Kerala will strike work for the second day today protesting over the killing of a doctor yesterday and highlighting their demands.
The doctors across the state went on a strike yesterday protesting against the killing of the house surgeon Dr Vandana Das by a drug addict while she was attending on him
at Taluk Hospital, Kottarakkara in Kollam district.
The Kerala Government Medical Officers Association (KGMOA) announced that
there will be no out-patient service and only emergency services will be maintained.
In a press release, the KGMOA said that
the doctors will boycott VIP duties until the safety of doctors and other health workers is ensured.
Major demands of the KGMOA include urgent notification of an ordinance amending the Hospital Protection Act, recruit well trained ex-servicemen in hospitals, install surveillance cameras in all hospitals, deploy armed reserve police and set up police aid posts in hospitals having Outpatient facilities.
It also demanded publication of order pertaining to facilities on triage in emergency sections, employ doctors and facilities in jails to carry out medical examinations of the accused, take exemplary action against the policemen who fail to protect the lives of the doctors, employ more casualty medical officers to facilitate putting at least two doctors in one shift in the casualty section and the like.
