Govt to go ahead with K-rail project

Kochi: Undeterred by strong opposition and criticism, the government on Monday decided to go ahead with the K-rail project connecting Thiruvananthapuram with Kasaragod through semi speed rail.

The government held meetings with the railways as part of taking forward the project.

The government and the railways decided to place survey stones in the railway owned land.

Prior to this the representatives of the railways and K-rail will conduct a joint inspection of the alignment.

A total of 185 hectares of railways land have been marked for acquisition. A total of 955.13 hectares of private land and 86.32 hectares of  government land will be acquired for the project.

A total of Rs 13,265 crore is required for acquisition. The total cost of the project is Rs 66,405 crore.

A total of Rs 33,700 crore will be raised as loan from overseas.

Southern Railway General Manager John Thomas also attended the meeting.
