Kochi: Unnatural deaths of women continue unabated as a widow and her teenaged son succumbed to their burn injuries in a hospital in Ernakulam.
Sindhu, 42, and her 17-year-old son were taken by neighbours and relatives to a hospital where Sindhu died on Sunday and son on Monday, media reports said.
Neighbours and relatives broke open the door of her room after they found smoke emanating from it at Nayarambalam under Njarakkal police limits.
While Sindhu’s relatives alleged that the duo were killed by the accused Dileep, police claimed it to be a case of suicide as the door was closed from inside.
Dileep had been harassing her following which her brother tried to warn the youth who in turn bashed him.
She lodged a complaint with the Njarakkal police who registered the complaint but failed to act on it fast. There are reports that the accused is a BJP worker and had brought with him a BJP leader to the police station when police had called them to hear both sides.
The relatives alleged that Dileep had visited Sindhu’s house and chided her before her death.
Sindhu was working as a cleaning staff in a hospital to support her family after the death of her husband.
Recently housewife Mofia Parveen had committed suicide unable to endure the insult inflicted by Aluva East Circle Inspector Sudheer who is suspenaion pending enquiry.
Number of police’s inefficiency is mounting each passing day with the government unable to come out with a deterrence against it. Meanwhile, Dileep has been arrested by the police under charges including instigation to take the extreme step.
