Grand end to Pooram

Kochi: The king of festivals, Thrissur Pooram
ended on a grand note with inexplicable fireworks displayed by two stakeholders Thiruvambadi and Paramekkavu near Vadakkumnathan Shiva temple in the wee hours of Wednesday.
Thiruvambadi temple initiated the process by lighting the fireworks at about 3 am.
This was followed by fireworks by Paramekkavu.
Smaller version of the Pooram called “Pakal Pooram” was held followed by a display of fireworks as a final spectacle.
The flag of the Vadakkunnathan Shiva temple was lowered to mark the culmination of the festival which is a contest between Thiruvambadi and Paramekkavu temples as an offering to please Lord Shiva, the presiding deity of Vadakkumnathan temple.
The Upacharam Cholli Piriyal (thanksgiving)
the ritual was conducted by Thiruvambady and Paramekkavu temples before returning to their abodes.
The thidambu (replica of idols) were taken in a procession led by elephants. It is a solemn farewell ceremony where the deities bid each other goodbye until next year’s Pooram.
