Guv adamant on cleansing varsities

Kochi: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan today said that as long as he was the Governor he would not allow the Left government to appoint candidates of their choise as faculties in the universities.

When asked about the government framing laws to bypass the Governor in making appointments in the universities, he said the assembly was a sovereign body and it was empowered to make laws.

But as a chancellor he had his own rights to protect the interests of the Universities, he told reporters at the Thiruvananthapuram airport.

Apparently referring to the appointment of Priya Varghese in Kannur University despite scoring the lowest marks, he said that the government was shamelessly defending their decision of her appointment despite the matter coming before public domain.

Reiterating his charges against the Kannur University Vice Chancellor of plotting to harm him during the History Congress at Kannur, he the videos of the function speakers making remarks to provoke him.

The organisers also allowed these speakers to
violate the time schedule allotted to each speaker.

He said the incident of Irfan Habeeb charging towards him was a criminal act which was overlooked by the left government which used to book  criminal cases against people at the drop of a hat.

The Governor said that he felt ashamed to being the chanellor of the universities.
