Kochi: Kerala High Court bench on Wednesday suspended the CBI Special Court’s verdict against four CPM leaders including an ex-MLA K V Kunhiraman who were convicted by a CBI court for forcibly rescuing an accused from police custody in the Periya murder case.
The CBI special court on January 3 had convicted them under section 225 IPC, which pertains to resistance or obstruction to lawful apprehension of a person.
They were sentenced to five years of imprisonment and fined Rs 10,000 each by the CBI Special Court in Kochi on January 3.
The CBI Special Court had sentenced 10 CPM workers to double life imprisonment for the murder and conspiracy in the killings of Youth Congress workers Kripesh (21) and Sarathlal P K (24) nearly six years ago. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh each under Sections 303 (murder) and 120B (conspiracy) of the IPC.
