Kochi: Samajwadi party founder and three time Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, 82, passed away in a private hospital in Gurgaon today, media reports said.
Born on November 22, 1939, Yadav was on life saving drugs. The demise of the three-time Chief Minister was announced by his son and former Chief Minister, Akhilesh Yadav, on Twitter.
The OBC stalwart rose in politics in the 70’s and went on to become the 15th Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 1989 after which Congress was flushed out of UP due to his Muslim-Yadav combination.H e had also served as the Union Minister of Defence. He was elected to the UP assembly ten times and to Parliament seven times.
The funeral function will be held in his Safai village in Etawah district. He will be cremated with full State honour. The government has announced three day mourning.
The Prime Minister has condoled his death.
