Kochi: In a major relief for former premier Imran Khan, a High Court in Pakistan has absolved him from Anti terrorism charges for allegedly making remarks against cops and the female judge.
The division bench of the Islamabad High Court directed to drop charges against Khan as his remarks would not attract provisions of Anti Terrorism Act which has the provision to give life term or capital punishment to those who are proved guilty of charges.
Charges were framed against Khan, 69, after he told a public meeting in Islamabad on August 20 of initiating legal recourse against the female judge Zeba Chaudhary for detaining one of his aides Shahbaz Gill for two days.
The prosecution claimed that Khan threatened the judge while the defence argued that Imran only suggested legal recourse against her.
Imran Khan’s government fell for failing to prove majority paving the way for the formation of a government led by Shahbaz Khan.
Khan had been holding frequent public rallies after his government’s fall.
