Investor calls off protest

Kochi: After high ampere drama, a NRI businessman today succumbed to persuasion of political leadership to call off his protest outside a panchayat in Kerala which was creating hurdles for him to launch his Rs 25 crore venture, media reports said.
Earlier in the day, George sat on a fast in the Manjoor panchayath compound in Kottayam district accusing the panchayat officials of harassing him to settle scores for getting one of their corrupt colleagues caught by vigilance sleuths a few months back, the reports said. He accused them of making him run from pillar to post for getting number for his building housing the venture.
Mons Joseph, MLA, of the Congress led alliance worked hard to bring around George to call off his protest.
Mons’ efforts to settle the matter paid off as a three member panel including district level senior officials of the Panchayat assured George to give the building number tomorrow itself if he submitted three documents.
George has agreed to the suggestion. Meanwhile, Mons advised the panchayat authorities to avoid creating similar situation in future.
It was Sabu Jacob, promoter of world’s largest readymade garment exporting company Kitex, who had taught a lesson to the Left government which tried to bully him down by raiding his office by different departments.
Delivering a blow on the face of the government, the miffed Jacob called off his plans to invest Rs 3000 crore in Kerala and flew off in a chartered flight sent by Telangana government where the government offered him a red carpet reception. He is busy building the world’s largest factory there providing job opportunities to thousands.
Jacob’s fight with the political dispensation started about a decade back when parties of different hues troubled him seeking huge donations which he refused. This cleared the way for Jacob to float his own political outfit twenty twenty and contest the panchayat elections in 2015 and grab power in Kizhakkambalam where his factories are located. Now his party is in power in four panchayats. It is commendable to note that he is at war with all the major political parties including the CPM, the Congress, and the BJP.
Jacob’s popularity is increasing each day for supplying essential articles to people of panchayats ruled by him through his super markets.
