Kochi: Taking exemption to Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan’s alleged threat to sack ministers, the CPM PolitBuro has sought President’s intervention in the matter.
In a resolution, the party said that the Governor has no power to sack ministers and urged the President to stop the Governor from making anti constitutional statements.
With regard to Governor’s reference to Article 164 of the Constitution which says “the Ministers shall hold office during the pleasure of the Governor”, CPM State chief M V Govindan said the Governor was setting a wrong precedent by making baseless remarks.
In a tweet Khan had said “statements of individual ministers that lower the dignity of the office of the Governor, can invite action including withdrawal of pleasure.”
A few ministers had criticised the Governor on earlier occasions and the latest remarks of Higher Education Minister R Bindu following Governor’s refusal to give assent to the University Laws (Amendment) Bill. Bindu denied making any remarks that lowered the dignity of the Governor’s office.
