Booker prize for Shehan of Sri Lanka

Kochi: Shehan Karunatilaka of Sri Lanka won the Booker Prize 2022 for authoring The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida. Receiving the trophy for the 50,000 pounds prize (Rs 46.62 lakh) from Queen Consort Camilla in London, he thanked his countrymen for their support.

The satirical book on Sri Lanka dwells about a dead war photographer. Neil MacGregor, chair of the judges for this year’s prize, said the novel takes the readers on a “roller-coaster journey” of life and death right to what the author describes as the dark heart of the world, media reports said.

The six books shortlisted for the award were Glory by NoViolet Bulawayo, The Trees by Percival Everett, Treacle Walker by Alan Garner, Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan and Oh William! by Elizabeth Strout.
